 THE ANDREW YAKUBU SCANDAL

Who is Andrew Yakubu? Mr Andrew Laah Yakubu is a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

Yesterday, Thursday, the 31st of March 2022,Mr.Yakubu was acquitted of all the charges of fraud against him, concerning the $9.8 million recovered from his house on the 16th of March 2017.

Recall that on that very day, Mr. Yakubu’s residence at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, was raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). They found $9,772,800 and £ 74,000 in his safe. He was immediately arraigned in the Abuja Federal high court on six counts of money laundering and other offences. However the court of appeal struck down the charges to the money laundering offences.

On Thursday, according to the judge,Mr. Mohammed, the evidence of Mr. Yakubu was not only credible, but reliable. He made mention of the fact that the prosecution failed to contradict the evidence by the law.

He blamed the EFCC for not investigating Mr. Yakubu’s claim that the monetary gifts were received from his friends. He solely greed with Mr. Yakubu’s defence that the funds were gifts from friends, and that they were received in aggregates and not whole. After that he dismissed the argument an ordered the immediate refund of the confiscated money to Mr. Yakubu.

  1. I believe they wee gifts, currently working In an IOC and you need to see the money in this field, somebody can win a contract of 500 million dollars and decide to dash him 5million from it. Imagine being in that position for long imagine how much money you can amass. Sometimes in a day he can receive up to $500k and it's nothing. Don't underestimate oil money.
